This week’s mac techmail is Stream audio and video from your Mac with Playback which looks at Yazsoft’s Playback software. Out of all the streaming server options for the mac that I’ve found, Playback is the easiest to get up and running and the one that works most reliably from the consoles. Very highly recommended. I know there are other alternatives, like the multi-platform PS3 Media Server, but that one at least I found to be fairly convoluted and took too much time to get it working properly (mind you, it was a while ago so perhaps things have changed since then). PS3 Media Server also only unofficially supports the XBOX 360, whereas Playback supports PS3 and XBOX 360, out of the box, easily. Playback had me up and streaming in minutes with minimal configuration, which is exactly what I wanted.
